Hot Yoga

Yesterday (Thursday), I went to hot yoga. My inner thighs are still amazingly sore from P90X leg workout. Lunges were a challenge for sure. But I could feel the strength in my hamstrings and hips during the standing poses. Unfortunately, the price of classes is going up in two days. It's already a stretch for me to afford hot yoga time. The plus side is she's adding more classes, with more teachers. This could make it worth it again...

It would be a great idea to condense this workout for myself. E and I both agree it doesn't need to take 60 minutes, especially when you're trying to get in ab ripper as well. I'd condense the back (pullups) into just one set of each kind, alternated with the best of the best leg workouts. Squats, calf raises, lunges... next time I do it I'm going to take the initiative and go through the workout book, pick the best ones, and see how long it takes me. If I could do the whole thing (with minimal warmup) + ab ripper in just under an hour, I'd still have time to stretch when I finished and not feel ridiculous about spending so much time working out.

And on the inspirational front, DOTR just signed up for a 1/2 marathon, on a whim! Wow, would that I could... I feel confident I could sign up for a 10k now and pull it off no prob, which is still pretty cool. But to have a 1/2 feel like that would be quite an accomplishment.

I'm craving beaty burgers again, with a gargantuan salad of arugula, spinach, walnuts and goat cheese feta....

Ab Ripper X
P90X Legs and Back
Hot Yoga
Did I forget anything?
All that yesterday while it rained and poured. And boy am I sore today!

longest run of my life

Yesterday I ran 7 miles. I had it in my mind that I would finish 6 for sure, and I was able to keep the power going and get 7 whole miles in. Wow. It didn't feel much harder than the first time I ran 6 miles. My legs started to feel pretty heavy during mile 6, and I definitely have my super awesome running playlist to thank (more than once!). So wow.

I ate some delicious homemade vegetable and wild rice soup after a really long stretching session, and drank tons of water. A 30 minute hot tub, and soapy shower later, we had a great dinner and hit the sack. Today my knees are slightly sore, and I know my muscle soreness is close at hand too. Today I'd like to follow it up with a yoga class (at either 4:30 or 6), and ab ripper x. Maybe even some pushups.

Definite plans to go swimming this week as the forecast calls for rain. I need to find my goggles!

3.5 miles and AbRipperX!

I had planned to hit the pool for some laps, but found out last minute a friend was coming to town. I canceled all plans to workout, and when I found out she'd be arriving late I was grateful I'd at least be able to squeeze in a short run. I made it a quick one and got home to find a text from her that she'd be even later! I threw down Ab Ripper X, which I've been meaning to do for weeks!, and showered up.

It was a nice quick workout. I can feel it in my quads, and my abs are tight. It's the kind of sore that starts out slow and tomorrow I'll really seriously be feeling it. Today I had a wonderful massage, and now I feel so tired. Like just laying in bed and reading tired.

I tried to plan out my week, full of running, yoga, swimming, work, and jury duty. That's right. I tried to get out of it but they caught me.

Here's to a productive week!

Hot yoga and no run

Sooo... no run since Thursday past. I will use the rain as an excuse - one thing I hate is running in the rain - but I should have gotten out there this afternoon. E and I also had plans for a P90X legs & back workout but the computers got the better of us. Sometimes it's just hard to make things happen around here.

I did get to Hot Yoga on Monday, and am feeling it in my arms and legs. For every 2-pushup vinyasa the class did, I did three-. It was nice, and I paid for a 5 class punch card and will be inspired to use them before we leave town on June 8. Finally, she's adding more teachers, and more classes, which is a relief, but she's also raising the prices which I can barely afford as it is! Tuesday we worked so long and so hard (construction!) that I just didn't have it in me after a 9 hour day to do my long run, let alone a short run.

I still haven't made it to the pool either, which is mostly because my potential swimming partner has been under the weather.

This post is full of excuses - not good. My resolve is firm, and I'm not blaming anyone or getting upset about my lack of exercise because I know this comes in cycles. I still feel good, and I'm not eating too poorly, so I can wait a few more days for the opportunity to get my heart rate up.

I really would like to start getting my mileage up this summer. I know I can do it (especially if I have a deadline!). I've been looking at some super-cute running skorts and just drooling. I would love to feel like I deserve something special like this, and like I deserve new running shoes to support my habit. REI's upcoming sale might be the key to me taking the opportunity to splurge on myself.

5 miles through town

Thursday I started my run around 5:50, which is pretty late, even for me! I decided to run around the headlands since it wasn't windy out. I haven't run around town in view of the ocean in quite a long while. It was grey and cloudy, but pretty much perfect other than that.

The pup and I had a pretty scary and angering encounter with a dumb german shepard only 3 minutes into the run. I was livid with the owner, who was letting his dog run off-leash in the middle of town, and had zero verbal control over his dog who obviously had it in for my pup. I was furious, and have a huge walnut-sized lump on my shin as a result of the encounter.

I would seriously like to get to the pool sometime in the next week. I haven't been able to get in any strength training this week, or yoga, but two great runs!

4.82 miles

Well, I hate to say it, but it's been another week between runs. I'm not sweating it too much, but boy was I sweating 4.82 miles. It was a windy run on the home trails, blowing and blowing again. I was definitely feeling it in my legs - mostly pain behind my knees and a little bit in my feet and hips. But it wasn't so bad. I committed to 6 miles on Thursday, so that will feel tough as well.

The 10k I had planned for this Sunday has been cancelled due to low registration. I'm disappointed for sure. I'm not really sure when my next race will be now. There's a run in SF at Giants field the second week in June - maybe I'll try and figure out how to get my mileage up to 13 in the next four weeks. Is that even possible?

Women's bootcamp and 5(?) mi.

Tuesday I celebrated the 1 year anniversary of the Women's Bootcamp by attending a free morning workout session on the beach. Apparently, this group meets 3 times a week for cardio/plyo/weights/yoga in the wonderful outdoors. I enjoyed the session and took each exercise to the max. As a result, my arms were really sore yesterday because I never do any upper body work (other than yoga vinyasas).

Yesterday I decided to take a run after work, and ran the trails around the house. It's still ridiculously windy here but the trails were somewhat protected. I ran about 50 minutes, which usually ends up being just over 5 miles for me. Could have been more. I felt great, and again, could have run more.

I've created a great new running playlist and can't wait to try it out. Not sure I'll be running very much over the weekend - I'll be taking special care of my joints - but will try to do ab ripper and take a walk if I can't run.

Also considering adding swimming to my routine...used to swim a lot in college and am reinspired by our new aquatic center.
