This was my favorite race yet. Beautiful day, perfect weather, and a familiar course. I had a goal, and I went to the race alone, which made the experience stark and poignant. As you can see, I came in under my goal of 1:59 by one second, which rocks. I set my garmin to beep every 9:05 to ensure I would finish, and at the turn I was ahead of schedule at least 20 seconds. I obviously slowed a bit after that, but kicked it into high gear the last mile, and super high gear the last 1/4 mile or so, and lit the turbo boosters the last 100 yards to make the 1:59.
I fueled on Clif Shot electrolyte in my handheld, which has never failed me, and ate two shot blocks. I also ate a chocolate mint GU in two stages, right after the turn and a bit more in a couple miles. It worked great, but my intestines revolted hard around 3pm that afternoon.
Did I mention I loved this race?
