3.5 miles and AbRipperX!

I had planned to hit the pool for some laps, but found out last minute a friend was coming to town. I canceled all plans to workout, and when I found out she'd be arriving late I was grateful I'd at least be able to squeeze in a short run. I made it a quick one and got home to find a text from her that she'd be even later! I threw down Ab Ripper X, which I've been meaning to do for weeks!, and showered up.

It was a nice quick workout. I can feel it in my quads, and my abs are tight. It's the kind of sore that starts out slow and tomorrow I'll really seriously be feeling it. Today I had a wonderful massage, and now I feel so tired. Like just laying in bed and reading tired.

I tried to plan out my week, full of running, yoga, swimming, work, and jury duty. That's right. I tried to get out of it but they caught me.

Here's to a productive week!

Hot yoga and no run

Sooo... no run since Thursday past. I will use the rain as an excuse - one thing I hate is running in the rain - but I should have gotten out there this afternoon. E and I also had plans for a P90X legs & back workout but the computers got the better of us. Sometimes it's just hard to make things happen around here.

I did get to Hot Yoga on Monday, and am feeling it in my arms and legs. For every 2-pushup vinyasa the class did, I did three-. It was nice, and I paid for a 5 class punch card and will be inspired to use them before we leave town on June 8. Finally, she's adding more teachers, and more classes, which is a relief, but she's also raising the prices which I can barely afford as it is! Tuesday we worked so long and so hard (construction!) that I just didn't have it in me after a 9 hour day to do my long run, let alone a short run.

I still haven't made it to the pool either, which is mostly because my potential swimming partner has been under the weather.

This post is full of excuses - not good. My resolve is firm, and I'm not blaming anyone or getting upset about my lack of exercise because I know this comes in cycles. I still feel good, and I'm not eating too poorly, so I can wait a few more days for the opportunity to get my heart rate up.

I really would like to start getting my mileage up this summer. I know I can do it (especially if I have a deadline!). I've been looking at some super-cute running skorts and just drooling. I would love to feel like I deserve something special like this, and like I deserve new running shoes to support my habit. REI's upcoming sale might be the key to me taking the opportunity to splurge on myself.

5 miles through town

Thursday I started my run around 5:50, which is pretty late, even for me! I decided to run around the headlands since it wasn't windy out. I haven't run around town in view of the ocean in quite a long while. It was grey and cloudy, but pretty much perfect other than that.

The pup and I had a pretty scary and angering encounter with a dumb german shepard only 3 minutes into the run. I was livid with the owner, who was letting his dog run off-leash in the middle of town, and had zero verbal control over his dog who obviously had it in for my pup. I was furious, and have a huge walnut-sized lump on my shin as a result of the encounter.

I would seriously like to get to the pool sometime in the next week. I haven't been able to get in any strength training this week, or yoga, but two great runs!

4.82 miles

Well, I hate to say it, but it's been another week between runs. I'm not sweating it too much, but boy was I sweating 4.82 miles. It was a windy run on the home trails, blowing and blowing again. I was definitely feeling it in my legs - mostly pain behind my knees and a little bit in my feet and hips. But it wasn't so bad. I committed to 6 miles on Thursday, so that will feel tough as well.

The 10k I had planned for this Sunday has been cancelled due to low registration. I'm disappointed for sure. I'm not really sure when my next race will be now. There's a run in SF at Giants field the second week in June - maybe I'll try and figure out how to get my mileage up to 13 in the next four weeks. Is that even possible?

Women's bootcamp and 5(?) mi.

Tuesday I celebrated the 1 year anniversary of the Women's Bootcamp by attending a free morning workout session on the beach. Apparently, this group meets 3 times a week for cardio/plyo/weights/yoga in the wonderful outdoors. I enjoyed the session and took each exercise to the max. As a result, my arms were really sore yesterday because I never do any upper body work (other than yoga vinyasas).

Yesterday I decided to take a run after work, and ran the trails around the house. It's still ridiculously windy here but the trails were somewhat protected. I ran about 50 minutes, which usually ends up being just over 5 miles for me. Could have been more. I felt great, and again, could have run more.

I've created a great new running playlist and can't wait to try it out. Not sure I'll be running very much over the weekend - I'll be taking special care of my joints - but will try to do ab ripper and take a walk if I can't run.

Also considering adding swimming to my routine...used to swim a lot in college and am reinspired by our new aquatic center.
